Current News

December 30th, 1999

A couple of new titles and dates are now set. These films will be released in what will be called the "Gold Collection". The upcoming titles are: The Aristocats (April 4, 2000), and The Fox and The Hound (May 2, 2000)

November 23rd, 1999

Lady and The Tramp, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, and Peter Pan all came out today. Also released was Pixar's A Bug's Life: Collectors Edition Tarzan is also available now for pre-order from The Disney Store. If you pre-order, you get a lithograph. I ordered mine last week, and I will try to get the lithograph scanned shortly. Also, one more title was added to the schedule section a couple days ago. That being Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas, scheduled for December 7th, 1999.

Nocember 10th, 1999

A couple more titles were added to the schedule section. On February 29th, 2000, we'll see the direct to video film An Extremely Goofy Movie on DVD, and on April 18th, 2000, a Collector's Edition of Tarzan, featuring audio commentary, a histoy of the film, presentation reels, and a background on author Edgar Rice Burroughs

November 9th, 1999

Hercules, Mulan, and 101 Dalmatians are being released today. However, I won't be able to put their information in the title section for a week or two. This is because there is a store around here that sells all new DVDs for $15, and I am going to get them there. The only bad thing is they don't usually get movies for about 1 or 2 weeks after they've been released. But to save $45, its worth it.

October 21st, 1999

I got Pinocchio today. I'm not going to say where I got it because I don't want to get any store in trouble for selling it early, but you can read all about it here.

Also, according to trailers, Tarzan will be available day and date with VHS, February 1, 2000.

Lastly, a new section has been added. A Release Schedule section has been added to help you easily keep track of what is coming out, and when. I will be doing quite a bit of cleaning up stuff and changing stuff around on this site. There hasn't been too much to do up until now, but it looks like that's changing. Finally.

August 17th, 1999

Ok, here's the news we've all been waiting for:

August 17, 1999: 7:08 a.m. ET

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Walt Disney Co. will begin releasing its animated films on digital video disk (DVD) as part of an effort to turn its struggling home video unit back into a cash cow, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

The paper said Disney has held back on putting its animated movies on the two-year-old format because it is still relatively new and many of the early users have been adults. According to industry estimates, there are currently 2.4 million DVD players in homes, and that number is expected to rise to 4 million by the end of the year.

The company is also considering making most of its animated movies that have gone to video available all the time. That would replace Disney's current strategy of rotating videos, keeping a title out of the market for seven to 10 years to build demand for future re-releases, the paper said.

The move to DVD and the new video-release strategy come as Disney is reviewing all its operations in an attempt to reverse the decline in its earnings and refocus on its core operations.

Analysts said Monday that Disney will try to sell its non-core assets in an effort to streamline operations and boost return on capital.

Those assets include its professional sports teams -- baseball's Anaheim Angels and hockey's Mighty Ducks of Anaheim -- and its Fairchild Publications unit, which is the publisher of Women's Wear Daily and several trade magazines.

Shares of Disney (DIS) closed up ? at 27-15/16 on Monday.

June 16th, 1999

DIVX IS DEAD!!!!!!

Let the celebration begin everyone, the evil DIVX has finally been killed. There are numerous news articles you can find with this information, but just a quick trip to http://www.divx.com/ will confirm it. This will mean Disney can no longer use DIVX as an excuse for not releasing their animated films on DVD. Hopefully we can now expect to see many more announcements for upcoming animated DVD titles. In the mean time, just sit back and enjoy the feeling of no more DIVX!

May 15th, 1999

Ok everyone, time to get mad. Apparently, Disney will be releasing both Alice in Wonderland and Dumbo on the evil DIVX exclusively. I encourage you all to go here and let Disney know how you feel about this. This is truly a sad event in Disney home video history, lets hope it is one that is soon forgotten when DIVX dies its much aniticipated and greatly deserved death, and Disney can start getting with the program and releasing real DVDs.

April 20th, 1999

A Bug's Life was released today on DVD. Full information about it is available in the titles section.

April 17th, 1999

I saw the first broken street date copy of Pixar's film, A Bug's Life on DVD today for sale at K-Mart for $29.99. I've pre-ordered mine from The Disney Store however, so I will have to wait until Tuesday to get it. I will post information about it on Tuesday night in the titles section.

February 20th, 1999

Pixar's film, A Bug's Life is now available for pre-order from The Disney Store for $29.95. With the pre-order, you also receive a lithograph.

January 29th, 1999

Disney will be releasing Pixar's film, A Bug's Life on April 20th, 1999, same day as the VHS version hits the shelves. While I personally don't consider Pixar films to be Disney animated films, I know many people do, and so I will sort of consider this to be a Disney animated DVD release.

November 12th, 1998

I just finished this web site, now for promoting it. Be sure to tell everyone you know who wants to see animated Disney DVD titles to come to this site and sign the petition. We've got to let people know what we want!

November 8th, 1998

I just started making this web site, mainly out of my frustration for the lack of Disney animated movies available on DVD. I know there are lots of people who would love to see Disney animation on DVD, so I figured this would give people a place to voice their opinions and to maybe let Disney know that we want DVD.
